Until the late '40s the F line ran into Boyle Heights on E. 4th St, and ran on South Hoover Street from Santa Barbara Ave. (M.L. King Blvd.) to Florence & Vermont, and thence in the median of Vermont to 120th St.
The following photo shows a northbound F car turning off of Main St. onto E. 4th St. just after World War II.
The next photo is on the southern end of the line, looking down Vermont at 54th Street, in 1955. The tracks crossing in the foreground are the 8 line on 54th Street.
The shot below shows the junction of the F line and the U line at Florence and Vermont. The F line, prior to the late '40s, operated on South Hoover and then swung over to this junction at Florence and Vermont, and proceeded south in the median of Vermont. By the early '50s, however, the F line had taken over the U line track on Vermont north of Florence.
The next shot shows the F line private right of way in South Vermont south of Florence Avenue. The low density of development and numerous vacant lots is also visible in this photo.
